Prologue:
My parents were originally from South Carolina. My father, Andrew (Andy) Clarence Green, was born in Bennettsville and my mother, Jean NMI Smith, in Dalzell. She later moved with her family to Eutawville near Lake Marion. She had five sisters and two brothers, Marguaritte (Tot), Emily, Gwendelyn (Gwen), Frances, Chris, Jean (mom), Jim and Jerry. Dad joined the Navy and married Mom in 1933. Tot was married to Bo Alderman, Emily to Chester Glenn, Gwen to John Morgan, and Frances to Ed Seale. Chris did not marry.
I came across some family memorabilia of late that had been 'resting' in my attic for some time. My brother, Bob, and I had gone to the old homestead in Eutawville, at Aunt Chris' request in the late 90's. She was going to sell the property. We inventoried the household and brought home the personal items such as pictures, letters and such. The items made their way eventually to the attic for 'safe' storage and later cataloguing and disposition. With life being hectic, and busy, it seemed that the best method of handling boxes of 'stuff' was to put them in the attic, eventually out of sight... out of mind. This latest discovery was the third move in twenty years since my move to Georgia. And with that discovery came a delight of insight to the lives of a great generation.
Cannot wait to hear more. I would really like to go through some of those pics with you...
